Chinese New Year 2018

Chinese New Year (CNY) is not one day festival, people starts celebrating it 15 days ago. All the Chinese people take holiday and rush to their home doesn’t matter where does they live they have to return their home to celebrate this biggest Chinese festival with their family. CNY also known as ‘Spring Festival’ is China’s most important and biggest festival and holiday. This year CNY falls on Friday, February 16th 2018, and beginning a year of the Dog. Apart from China CNY festival celebrates in neighbouring country such as Singapore, South Korea and ofcourse at every chinatown across the world.

Cleaning the house-CNY celebration starts with cleaning their house specially kitchen, Chinese people called it “Sweeping dust”.
Shopping: People do lots of shopping and gift, food, cloth and decorative item for CNY. Especially in cloth family member buys cloth for each other, it is traditional to wear new cloth on spring festival. So it doesn’t matter whether they need the new cloth or not they have to wear it. During this time shopping mall offers discounts and attractive offers. This is shopping boom time in China.
Decoration: People start decoration their home before CNY; most people do decoration part before one day of CNY. Main door of the houses are decorated by red couplets and hanging red lanterns, and inside the house with New Year painting. Since this year is dog year the dog painting and images will be seen as decorating items. According to the people believe putting the year animal image/ decorative item brings luck.
Offering Scarifies to ancestors
According to the ancient custom, family member keel in front to their ancestors tomb and offers meat, wine and some food on the CNY evening before the reunion dinner to show that they are letting their ancestors “eat” first. Ancestor worship has been practiced in China every year for thousands of years. This show respect, love; some people believe ancestors spirits protect them.
The CNY eve dinner is most important in “spring festival”, all family members unite and eat together. Chinese people return to their home for this event, even though they travel long distance to return.
New Year food
Generally people eat fish, noodles, dumplings, rice cake.

Fish: an Increase in Prosperity
People believe eating fish on New Year always provides more than they need And They will get Success in your exam.
Chinese Dumplings: Wealth
People believe eating more dumplings bring more money.
‘Bringing in wealth and treasure’ saying by the country side people
People prefer fillings as minced pork, diced shrimp, fish, ground chicken, beef, and vegetables. They can be cooked by boiling, steaming, frying or baking.
Spring Rolls: Wealth
“If you eat more springs rolls will get more gold” saying by country side people.
Glutinous Rice Cake: A Higher Income or Position
Chinese people believe, the higher you are the more prosperous your business is a general improvement in life. ‘Getting higher year-after-year by year’, can imply children’s height, rise in business success, better grades in study, promotions at work people believes.
Noodles: Happiness and Longevity
Noodles unsurprisingly symbolize a wish for longevity. Their length and unsevered preparation are also symbolic of the eater’s life. They are longer than normal noodles and uncut represent their life long.
Fruits: Fullness and Wealth
Certain fruits are eaten during the CNY eve, such as tangerines and oranges, and pomeloes. They are selected as they are particularly round and “golden” in colour, symbolizing fullness and wealth. People believe this fruits bring wealth and good luck in coming New Year.
After the reunion dinner family give red packet (hongbao) to each other to show their loves, and stay late play games or watches movie together.
New Year day
On the New Year a day people person do shopping for fire crackers and some part of china people pray and offer some food to ancestors. At the night family unite and burst the fire crackers, sky can be seen by full of crackers.
Second day of New Year
Second day of new year till new year week people visit to their friends and family relatives and give blessings and gift share happiness. Married daughter return to their home to celebrates the festival together.
15th day of the CNY celebrates as lantern festival, family member unite again and eat sweet dumplings play with firecrackers. During this day sky can see with full of lantern and crackers.
